Program Accomplishments
Twelve ships were sold for scrapping in fiscal year 2001. One ship was donated to States for sinking as artificial fish reefs. Five ships are expected to be sold for scrapping, three ships are expected to be sold under special legislation for operation, and it is anticipated that one vessel will be donated to a State for sinking as artificial fish reef in fiscal year 2001.

Those who have a need for ships for dismantling purposes may purchase ships under competitive bids. States may be conveyed ships for sinking as artificial fish reefs.
