The Chinese Center for Disease Control and PreventionÂ’s National Center for AIDS/STD Prevention and Control (NCAIDS) was officially established in 1998 as the primary implementation unit of the national HIV/AIDS response in China. As such, NCAIDS is responsible for the following activities: 1) assist the Ministry of Health of the PeopleÂ’s Republic of China in the development of evidence-based policy and regulations for HIV/AIDS prevention and control; 2) develop the national action plan for HIV/AIDS prevention and control and develop the technical strategies and measures to implement the plan; 3) organize surveys, analysis and projections of the AIDS epidemic in China, and manage HIV/AIDS epidemic disease reporting; 4) collect and exchange information on AIDS prevention and control domestically and internationally; 5) provide technical guidance on national professional human resources development for HIV/AIDS prevention and control; 6) organize and conduct research concerning the strategies of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, epidemiology, health education and intervention, treatment and care, AIDS etiology, immunology and laboratory technologies; and 7) organize and implement AIDS cooperation and exchange programs between the national government, multilateral and bilateral organizations.
