Use of Genetic Analysis for the Identification of Asian Carp Reproduction in the Upper Mississippi River Basin

This project supports efforts toward monitoring Asian carp reproduction and recruitment in the Upper Mississippi River basin. Current research conducted by ISU has focused on sampling for Asian carp eggs and larvae throughout the Upper Mississippi River basin. Results of this project will contribute toward understanding of when and where Asian carp are reproducing in this region and mechanisms contributing towards population expansion. In addition, the results will also help identify how environmental conditions, dams, and tributaries interact to define spawning and nursery habitats in the Upper Mississippi River basin. Combined, these results will aid managers targeting spawning and nursery habitats for removal and/or control efforts.
