OJJDP FY 2015 Second Chance Act Strengthening Families and Children of Incarcerated Parents

 

This program will promote and expand services to children who have a parent who is incarcerated in a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility. Program activities include mentoring and comprehensive services that facilitate healthy and positive relationships between incarcerated individuals, their children, and caregivers. This program will implement positive developmental activities to address issues the child and the family may face, strategies to increase and enhance communication between child and parent, and transitional reentry services for parents who are released during the program

Who is eligible to apply/benefit from this assistance?
Applicant Eligibility
Eligible applicants are limited to nonprofit organizations (including faith-based, tribal, and community nonprofit organizations) with a demonstrable history of providing services to children of incarcerated parents and community-based reentry programming. Applicants who do not have a demonstrated history of providing both services to children of incarcerated parents and community-based reentry programming must be able to demonstrate a history of providing one of the required services and may partner with a community-based nonprofit that has experience and expertise in providing the other required services. Applicants must submit letters of support or memoranda of understanding demonstrating this relationship. OJJDP welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for conducting and leading the pilot. OJJDP may elect to make awards for applications submitted under this solicitation in future fiscal years, dependent on the merit of the applications and on the availability of appropriations.
