Multiple Approaches to Support Young Breast Cancer Survivors and Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients

 

Goals resulting from providing support to young breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer patients include: increased support for caregivers and families for these individuals, increased awareness of clinical trials by both young women diagnosed with cancer and individuals diagnosed with metastic breast cancer, increased financial support, and improved quality of life among young breast cancer survivors.

Program Accomplishments
Fiscal Year 2018 Seven funded programs implemented evidenced-based interventions that focus on: 1) assistance in coping with the effects of treatment (e.g., psychosocial health, reproductive health, financial concerns); and/or 2) provision of information about follow-up care, risk of recurrence and new malignancies, fertility, psychosocial support, risk of family members developing breast cancer, genetic testing, and general health promotion (including quality of life).

This statute amends the US Public Health Service Act, which allows for the provision of: (1) campaigns to educate the public and health care professionals about young women's breast health, (2) research that explores strategies to prevent breast cancer in young women, and (3) support for young women with breast cancer.

Pre-Application Procedure
Preapplication coordination is required. This program is eligible for coverage under E.O. 12372, "Intergovernmental Review of Federal Programs." An applicant should consult the office or official designated as the single point of contact in his or her State for more information on the process the State requires to be followed in applying for assistance, if the State has selected the program for review.
Application Procedure
This program is excluded from coverage under 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
Award Procedure
Review and Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed in three phases. Phase I Review: applications will be reviewed initially for completeness by CDC OGS staff and will be reviewed jointly for eligibility by the CDC NCCDPHP DCPC and OGS. Phase II Review: A review panel will evaluate complete, eligible applications in accordance with the "Criteria" section of the NOFO. Phase III Review: Applications will be funded in order by score and rank determined by the review panel.
