FY15 LOCOMOTIVE PERFORMANCE AND ENGINE DURABILITY ASSESSMENT OF B5 TO B20 BIODIESEL FUEL USAGE

This effort will add additional funds to the grant to allow the research team to address significant comments received from the railroad industry on the draft final report, as well as to interact with the railroad industry to garner additional information that would enhance the final report. The original intent of the grant was to explore applicable railroad experience, provide needed information on existing biodiesel usage, identify and investigate fuel-related problems when they occur, define the root causes and potential solutions, design and develop a comprehensive and systematic biodiesel engine durability assessment program, and prepare a report of all project findings for use by the railroads and the locomotive manufacturers.
