Domestic Violence Shelter Renovation - Kakheti

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs section of the U.S. Embassy-Tbilisi received funding for the renovation of a Domestic Violence Shelter in Kakheti. The domestic violence facility is a short term residential center that can house up to five families for a period of up to 90 days. Families that use this facility are fleeing violent or threatening behavior and live at this location until permanent relocation can be arranged. Along with housing the families, the facility will have a large kitchen/dining room, administrative office, social services office, one reception room, one family room, a small warehouse and guard quarters. The purpose of the grant is to continue the renovation of the structure which was undertaken by the State Fund for the Protection and Assistance of Victims. The goal of the grant is to provide a facility and curtilage that provides a safe and comfortable environment for the domestic violence victims and their children. It is estimated that the funding provided by this grant will not cover all of the improvements desired at this location, so a priority list of improvements is outlined below.
