Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Great Lakes Northern Forests

U.S. Geological Surveys (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center is offering a funding opportunity for a CESU Partner for research on Diets and Growth of Larval Fishes Provide Insight on Nursery Habitat Quality in the St. Clair Detroit Rivers System. This research will provide insight about the quality of food resources and fish nursery habitats in the connecting channel using statistical and biological approaches to analyze and synthesize samples and long-term scientific monitoring data sets. These efforts will include quantifying aquatic community composition, species succession, abundance, distribution, and trophic pathways (i.e. larval fish diets). These types of information are critical to identifying and understanding the ecological interactions within the SCDRS and western Lake Erie. Information gleaned from these studies will be used to guide management and restoration of fish populations and their habitats in the study areas.
