BLM (Arizona), BLM Arizona Buffelgrass Management and Treatments (GDO)

 

Description of Program and/or Project a. Background: BLM policy is to manage public lands by conserving, protecting, and improving the condition and productivity of renewable resources. BLM manages for biologically diverse, resilient and productive native plant communities to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is used to achieve vegetation management objectives an in important early treatment to manage invasive vegetation species. BLM uses Early, Detection, Rapid, and Response (EDRR) to manage invasive vegetation species to effectively implement treatment. b. Objectives: To support public awareness through volunteers, identify areas infested by Buffelgrass, inventory infestations by using National Invasive Species Information Management Systems (NISIMS) program, and treating Buffelgrass to contain the rate of spread. The goal is to eradicate Buffelgrass within and around the Tucson District and the Ironwood National Monument areas. To work with partners to cooperatively manage invasive weed species across the landscape. To bring additional resources to the region such as volunteers and engaging education to the public. Managing buffelgrass successfully will minimize the spread, reduce wildfires and restore treated areas.
